Chawathil - Schkam IR#2 Sewer System Improvements

Project comprises of a sewage system upgrade at the Chawathil First Nation's Schkam IR# 2 community. Proposed project works include the installation of community wastewater collection piping and placement of lift stations, wastewater treatment and in-ground septic field disposal.

Works involving piping upgrades for the sanitary system are located within the existing road alignments within the community with connections to existing residences. Two community septic fields are being proposed south of the baseball diamond, and a moving bed biofilm reactor connecting the residential septic fields and sanitary piping system into the community septic fields. Four lift stations situated throughout the community would pump sewage through the main piping system and into the moving bed biofilm reactor.

Activities:
It is understood that project activities for the Site and sewage system upgrades would include the following:
•    Clearing of existing vegetation in limited areas for upgrade of septic fields.
•    Excavating and infilling to position sewer pipe alignment and in-field septic systems.
•    Maintenance and monitoring of the community septic field discharge system.
Minimal vegetation clearing is required for the system upgrades. The majority of the proposed works are to occur along paved road and in previously disturbed or developed areas.

Requirements:
The proposeRegulatoryd project alignemnt is enclosed by Schkam No. 2 federal land, where Provincial regulations do not apply. However, project activities on- or off-Schkam No. 2 and should follow the guidance criteria described in Provincial laws, which is typically the standard for constrction BMPs. Given the environemntal features present on-site, relevant regulatory requirements would be considered when designing and constructing on and adjacent to the project site.

Waste Generation:
Construction waste for piping infrastructure and treatment plant would include piping cut- offs and excess building material debris.  Wastes are to be disposed of or recycled at an approved facility offsite.
