New Dock Installation at 374 Seashell Lane

The proposed Project is for an installation of a new recreational dock at 374 Seashell Lane, North Vancouver.

The proposed dock includes the following features:

  • Approximately 33.5 metre long (1.2 metre wide) aluminum pier section with perforated decking that would sit on two approximately 760 mm diameter precast concrete columns
  • Approximately 16.7 metre long (1.2 metre wide) aluminum ramp with hinges and wheels on the float end to accommodate the rising and lowering of the tide
  • Approximately 30 square metre float composed of CCA treated Douglas Fir, which will be towed into place and moored in the water by 2 (400 mm) steel piles (vibratory hammer).

The Project would consist of towing the wooden and composite dock float to the site and using a vibratory hammer to install two 400 mm steel piles to keep it in place. The Applicant would then construct two precast concrete columns offsite, install the columns at site, and then place two welded aluminum pier sections on top of them. There is an existing 1.2 metre concrete landing on the shore to support the shore end of the pier section and a precast concrete footing would be installed at grade to support the outboard concrete column. The aluminum ramp would be manufactured offsite and positioned on top of the outboard concrete column by crane and anchored with removable bolts. The float end of the ramp would be on wheels that ride in guides depending on the tide level.

Should the Project Permit be approved, construction would begin shortly thereafter and take approximately two weeks to complete. The proposed work will be conducted during regular construction hours.
