WCMRC Oil Spill Response Facility at Nanaimo Harbour (closed and replaced)

*** This assessment is replaced with a new process. (Reference No. 80639) ***

Western Canada Marine Response Corporation proposes to construct and operate a marine spill response base at the Nanaimo Assembly Wharves, within the Nanaimo Port Authority property boundaries, in an area that has been under industrial use for the last several decades.

The Project includes modifications to the foreshore area and some upland work that is outside the scope of this review.

In-water construction works will include installation of 19 steel pilings, gangway and floats, a pre-cast concrete retaining wall, water, sanitary and power utilities, and LED lighting. Installation of the retaining wall will involve removal of timber cribbing as required, pulling back existing riprap, installation of the concrete panels on a gravel base and placement of approximately 270 m³ of rip rap and 100 m³ of filter rock.
