Pump Station Demolition - 3rd Canadian Division Support Group (CDSG), Detachment British Columbia Mainland - Chilliwack

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to remove a number of facilities over time. The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) owns the Greater Vernon Water Utility (GVWU), and a number of these facilities are no longer in use. As a result, funding has been created to remove these facilities over time. The DND pump station is a small building located on DND land just off highway 97 when entering Vernon from the South. A demolition contractor has been secured for the work and plans to remove the small building (5.5m by 8m). The Project is approximately a 2 to 3 day project. The prime contractor will mobilize on site, review unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) protocols with Notra, remove hazardous materials prior to demolition. Once the site is cleared of UXO and hazardous materials contractor will remove the building and chain link fence and legally dispose of non-recyclable materials.

Latest update

September 11, 2021 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The Department of National Defence is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
