Pauquachin Legacy Gathering Space

The Project involves the construction of the Pauquachin Legacy Gathering Place near North Saanich, BC, which will consist of two pavilions - the Big House and the Band Hall. The Big House will be an unheated shell enkeeping with traditional Coast Salish architecture and construction, and will include the entrance to the Band Hall. The purpose of this project is to provide a place for the expression and exploration of traditional culture and the history of Coast Salish and WSANEC People.

Works will include construction of the Big House (approximately 7,739 square feet) with all associated works (fire sprinkler and electrical systems, no heating) and construction of the Band Hall (9,832 square feet) with all associated works (Kitchen, washrooms, offices, utilities, heating), and the installation of roof mounted solar photovoltaic arrays (256 square meters, 76.8 kilowatts) and a backup generator will provide power for the new buildings. The project site will undergo lot grading, site servicing (water, sewer, dranage, power systems), landscaping, and installation of pathways and lighting. Construction of the new access road will require vegetation clearing (shrubs, trees, and grasses) and soil disturbances, and the buildings will be located on an unused rock quarry area.
