Tavern on the Hill - Seating Modifications

The National Capital Commission's (NCC) tenant, Tavern on the Hill, proposes to build a deck to expand the seating area at Tavern on the Hill for approximately 164 additional patrons (surface area 511 m2). Nestled adjacent to the Header House in Ottawa, Canada, Tavern on the Hill aims to create a welcoming and communal space within the park, fostering a sense of community and leisure for all visitors.

Situated on NCC lands, the project falls under the jurisdiction of federal regulations governing land use, design, and real estate transactions as outlined in the National Capital Act.

The proposed deck will be thoughtfully positioned to maximize scenic views while harmonizing with the natural beauty of the park. The deck's design prioritizes durability and aesthetics, ensuring a visually pleasing addition that requires minimal maintenance over time.

Construction will begin in spring 2024 with a target completion date of May 2024, allowing patrons to enjoy the upgraded seating facilities by the upcoming season. The construction process entails the preparation of the designated area and the installation of the deck structure. Throughout these phases, efforts will be made to minimize any environmental impacts, including impacts to the two existing mature trees on the site. No trees will be cut as part of this project. The proponent will use responsible construction practices and obtain necessary permits and approvals.

Community feedback is important to this project. The NCC is soliciting public input and will address concerns or preferences that may arise during the planning and construction phases. The project aims to reflect the needs and desires of park users, contributing positively to the overall park experience.
