Asphalt Overlay Replacement

Brief Project Overview:

The intent of this project will be to repair existing conditions of the North Ring Road, which is newly re-named Murmansk Run Road at the Carling Campus. The roadway has been subject to extensive heavy construction traffic during the major fit-up of Carling Campus, which was completed in June 2020 and due to ongoing serviceability requirements and life-cycle maintenance is now in need of replacement. This work has been reviewed with the National Capital Commission (NCC) who determined an NCC FLUDTA was not required for this project as the work is considered to be maintenance of existing infrastructure and replacement will be a like for like scenario.

The initial consultant review of the roadway has highlighted pooling water, ponding and cracking of the asphalt service particularly starting in front of the Pavilion building and eastward to Moodie Drive. This work will not include any alterations to existing roadway footprints nor involve relocation or redesign of any landscape attributes, vegetation, trees, stormwater management ponds or anticipated to impact wildlife or their habitats which may be found at the Campus.

Description of General Project Activities:

A general contractor will be performing, but not limited to, the following activities to rectify the above issues:
- Removal and reinstatement of existing asphalt surfaces,
- Correction and proper compaction of sub-surface granular base,
- Repainting of road lines.

Project activities are expected to be performed by personnel using a combination heavy equipment such as excavators, dump trucks and asphalt paving machines along with hand-held power tools such as small electric, gas or pneumatic operated tools (i.e. quick cut saw, chipping tools or similar) along with small mechanized vehicles such as work trucks, skid-steer loaders etc.
