Pump House Flood Protection

The purpose of this project is to protect the pumphouse from flooding due to potential high Ottawa River levels. The asset is a part of the Central Heating and Cooling Plant (CHCP) at Tunney's Pasture in Ottawa, ON. The contractor will install temporary sandbag walls and granular around the pumphouse as well as diesel powered pump. Sandbags will be covered in plastic to prevent materials from entering the water course. The installation will be maintained and under security 24/7 while there is the potential for flooding. Once the risk of flooding has been sufficiently reduced the contractor will remove and dispose of the sandbags and granular and return the site back to its original condition. The materials impacted by the river will be disposed of as contaminated materials to an approved landfill. Project work is occurring in close proximity to the Ottawa River, in a green area around the pumphouse. This has the potential to be an annual project depending on weather conditions and whether permanent flood protection is installed.
