Greater Montreal River Walk

The project consists of the consolidation and enhancement of the recreational infrastructure of the St. Lawrence Seaway dike in order to improve the population's contact with nature and the river in a controlled manner, while respecting the Seaway's vocation and history and in perfect harmony with the riverside communities.

The recreational infrastructures will be consolidated over a total length of 13.4 kilometers in the cities of Sainte-Catherine, Delson, Candiac, La Prairie, Brossard and Saint-Lambert. The project will be carried out in harmony with the existing facilities of the Récréoparc nautical zone of the city of Sainte-Catherine.

The promenade's surroundings will include several elements designed to meet the needs of users, including :

  • 13.4 km cycle path located at the top of the dike, in the right-of-way of an existing access road;
  • Continuous footpath 13.4 km along the dike;
  • Development of 8 rest stops and observation points. The number of observation points has yet to be determined. These points will be set up at strategic locations offering points of interest;
  • Furniture consisting of concrete modules laid on the ground and pre-built in a factory (benches, bike racks, tables, litter garbage cans, walkways, stairs, etc.);
  • Toilet block, possibly equipped with an ecoflo biofilter system;
  • Construction of three reception kiosks, entirely self-sufficient in water and electricity;
  • Installation of marker posts every 500 metres;
  • interpretive panels with respect to the fauna, flora and ecosystems.
