Repair work on lock No. 5 of the Lachine Canal

The PCA wishes to proceed with major repairs on lock No. 5 of the Lachine Canal. The project will involve work primarily on the mechanical, electrical and automated systems. The plan is to change several mechanical parts on the doors and guillotine valves, replace the electrical systems of the doors and valves, and  make a few adjustments to the electrical panels and control boxes that open the doors and valves.

It is also expected that some work will be done on the structure, such as the repointing the mortar on certain sections of the wall, replacing parts on the doors and stabilizing scoured areas at the base of the walls.

Finally, strengthening the doors of the lock is recommended, as well as well as installing aerators on the upstream doors and on the mechanical protection systems in the gutters.

The work is planned for the fall, after the boating season. The water level in the lock needs to be lowered and the survival of the fish must be ensured.
