Protection on the embankment - Contrecoeur, Port of Montreal

The scope of work for this project consists in the installation of a new riprap protection on the embankment of the Contrecoeur Marine Terminal located at 1920 boulevard Marie-Victorin (route 132) in Contrecoeur. The existing embankment is located south of berths 1 and 2, and extends from the end of the steel sheet pile retaining wall (berth 2) to the south-western boundary of the property occupied by operator Logistec Arrimage Inc. The work area is 240 m long and varies between 6 to 10 m in width.

The work includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • The installation of a floating curtain boom and floating absorbent barrier. The purpose of this equipment is to confine the work area and will be kept in place for the complete duration of the work.
  • Removal of plant cover and cleaning of the embankment. The surface of the embankment must be cleaned of debris such as pieces of concrete, garbage, pieces of metal, organic material or any other debris that does not consist of stone or mineral fill.
  • Excavation, reprofiling of the existing embankment and preparation of the base for the new riprap.
  • Disposal out of site of all excavated material.
  • Installation of new riprap, including extension of existing outfalls.

 

All planned work can be carried out from the top of the existing bank from the Logistec Arrimage site.

Work is scheduled for the fall of 2024, the time of year when the water level of the St. Lawrence River is at its lowest. Despite this, it is possible that some activities such as excavation of the existing ground for the proposed riprap key and installation of the new riprap will be carried out below water level. The portion of the work carried out above and below water level will be dictated by the period during which the work is carried out and the water levels observed at that time. The estimated duration of the work described above is four (4) months.
