Redevelopment of the main entrance to the naval base in Quebec City

The works involve redeveloping the main entrance to the naval base in Québec City, located at 101 Champlain Boulevard. This entrance, with the existing gatehouse, represents the registration and control checkpoint of all arrivals and exits, including that of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) employees. The work zone is located between the Champlain Boulevard and the Queen's Wharf, amongst buildings 200 and 400. This sector constitutes the main access to the wharf (Base de Québec) and to the various buildings located there. The project consists of the following: 

  • the expansion of the main entrance (2 access roads and 1 exit lane), which will require excavation work, 

  • the demolition of the current gatehouse (building 300), 

  • the construction of a new gatehouse in the back end (east) of the property, 

  • the construction of a covered pedestrian crossing along Building 200 (former Customs House, "listed" federal heritage building), 

  • the construction of a protected entrance adjacent to Building 400. 

The construction facilities will be located on the property, in the area of the former Godin Park. 

The archaeological potential is believed significant and the probability of discovering archaeological remains of great value was considered high in the work area. As such, specific measures will be put in place during the construction works.
