Graham Pond Basin Dredge

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbour (DFO-SCH) Graham Pond is a Class A facility home to approximately 50 vessels located in Gaspereaux, Kings County, PEI. Water depths within the basin are becoming difficult to
navigate due to the natural sedimentation of the harbour. In order to address this safety and operational concern, DFO-SCH is proposing to dredge the harbour basin to a depth of 1.8m below chart datum, with disposal of the dredge material in the on-site containment cell. Depending on the contractor, dredging will be carried out either by a barge mounted excavator with haul trucks for disposal, or a cutter suction dredge with pipeline disposal. The total dredge area is approximately 10,000m2. Total dredge volume is approximately 10,000m3. Dredging activities are anticipated to commence in the fall of 2021 and take up to 6-8 weeks to complete.

Notice of Determination


November 26, 2021 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Small Craft Harbours has issued its Notice of Determination after evaluation of the project to dredge the basin at Graham Pond Harbour and has determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects with mitigation measures as outlined in their evaluation and can therefore proceed.
