Marginal Wharf Reconstruction at Little Harbour L'Ardoise Small Craft Harbour, Richmond County, NS
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada proposes to undertake a marginal wharf reconstruction project at Little Harbour L'Ardoise Harbour, located near L'Ardoise in Richmond County, Nova Scotia. The marginal wharf reconstruction will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the existing service area and marginal wharf as it is being reconstructed.
The existing marginal timber crib wharf will be lowered to +1.45 m above chart datum and the existing closed face timber sheeting, fenders and ladders on the outer edge will be removed. Precast concrete panels will be installed along the outer edge approximately 0.9 m from the existing wharf side and piles will be driven in to at least -5.00 m. The interstitial space will be filled with clear stone and the piles will be toed in with scour protection.
Concrete deadmen will be installed at 2.5 m intervals along the inner edge of the marginal wharf and attached to the concrete panels. To accommodate the deadmen installation, the breakwater along the wharf will be temporarily excavated (locally lowered to +0.525m above chart datum) and adjusted, and replaced with clean backfill when complete. The entire area will be overlain with gravel and the wharf area will be topped with a concrete slab. The wharf will be tied in with the existing marginal wharf with a concrete ramp. The breakwater will be reinstated as required along the new structure. Any amendment to the existing breakwater will be temporary in order to complete the work and will not permanently adjust the current footprint.
