Shoreline Protection Repairs, Advocate Harbour Small Craft Harbour, Cumberland County, NS

The Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada proposes to undertake a shoreline protection repair project at Advocate Harbour, located in Advocate Harnour in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. The shoreline protection repair will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the shore. The proposed repair project includes the temporary removal of over 400 kg of existing stone (for reuse), the removal/disposal of unusable stone (and concrete slabs currently installed), shoring/sloping of eroded shoreline, installation of filter fabric, installation of two layers of 400-600kg filter stone, and installation of one layer of 4-6 metric tonne armour stone. This will be the typical installation for the entire length (~35 meters) of the shoreline protection. Some Type 2 gravel will also need to be installed, local to the approach to the SCH wharf, where it has been washed out due to the lack of existing shore protection.
