Installation of riprap at the commercial wharf of Grande-Entrée Harbour in Magdalen Islands

The fishing harbour of Grande-Entrée, owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Small Craft Harbours Branch (SCH), is located in the Magdalen Islands.

The commercial wharf, built in 1982, is currently in an advanced state of deterioration. Several sections of the wooden facade have already come loose, causing a hollowing out of the wharf.

It has become necessary to intervene at this site since the scouring under this structure could cause stability issues for the foundations of the building located near the wharf. In addition, the wood that comes loose from the facades becomes a danger for navigation.

The completion of this work will ensure the safety of operations for users of this fishing harbor which constitutes one of the economic engines of this coastal community.

The project involves the partial demolition and riprap of the commercial wharf and includes the completion of the following work:

  • Demolition of the concrete deck and part of the creosote wooden structure of the existing wharf;
  • Disposal of demolition materials (including creosote wood);
  • Installation of riprap stone to protect the bank.
