Bedford Rifle Range Upgrades - Canadian Forces Base Halifax

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project to carry out upgrades to the 50 metre and 600 meter / 25 meter ranges at the Bedford Rifle Range. Planned upgrades include the replacement of the 600 meter target gallery and bullet catchers; renovations to the 25 meter range firing lanes, target holders, and bullet catchers; construction of a new 600 meter / 25 meter target shelter and ammo loading shelter; renovations to the 50 meter range target holders, lane markers, targets, and bullet catchers, regrading of firing lanes, elongation of the butt stop to accommodate a 10th lane, construction of an ammo shelter; and associated site work. Excess soil/sediment considered to be hazardous waste will be disposed at a designated hazardous waste secure landfill; all other excess soil/sediment will be disposed at a licensed disposal and/or soil treatment facility. Proposed project activities are expected to begin in Spring 2023 and conclude in Fall 2023.

December 16, 2022— The Department of National Defence issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
