Breakwater Reconstruction at Hampton Small Craft Harbour, Annapolis County, NS

The Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada proposes to undertake a breakwater reconstruction project at Hampton Harbour, located near Bridgetown in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. The breakwater reconstruction will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the existing breakwater as it is being reconstructed.

The project involves the reconstruction of approximately 19 m of the west breakwater to stabilize the section of breakwater following the failure of the existing breakwater/cribwork structure. The breakwater will be stabilized by constructing a rock slope over the length of the cribwork failure. The scope of work includes the demolition, removal and disposal of the failed cribwork structure; removal, salvage and reinstatement of existing corestone, filterstone and armourstone; and supply and placement of new corestone, filterstone and armourstone to fill in the remaining gap to meet the existing breakwater toe.

The remnants of the failed cribwork wharf within the breakwater structure will be removed to corestone limits. Armourstone, corestone and filterstone will be removed above the area in disrepair to accommodate the work.  A new slope at a ratio of 1.5:1 will be created with corestone and filterstone to transition into the existing slope. Wherever possible, stone removed during the initial stages of the work will be reinstated on the new structure.
