Construction of an unloading dock at Millerand Harbour, Magdalen Islands

This project is part of a regional initiative by Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Small Craft Harbours program to recycle dredged sediments. To achieve this, construction of a new sediment unloading wharf and temporary storage area is required to facilitate the management of dredged sediments at this site prior to transport.

Work at the Millerand fishing harbour in the Magdalen Islands includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Supply and installation of imported stone for the construction of riprap protection to delineate most of the perimeter of the sediment storage area.
  • Supply of treated lumber, plastic paneling, galvanized hardware, concrete slab and ballast stone for construction of the sediment storage area unloading station.
  • Excavation of the seabed to allow construction of the granular foundation at the elevations shown on the plans.
  • Supply of granular materials and grading and compaction work behind the new wharf and to build the foundation for the running surface of the service area.
  • Dredging of the seabed to widen the gauge and allow the barge and barges to dock at the new sediment storage area unloading berth.
  • Minor demolition and reconstruction of the riprap protection adjacent to the boat launch.
