Cambrai Rifle Range Repair – Canadian Forces Station St. John's

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The DND is proposing to carry out repair work and upgrades to the 600-yard range at the Cambrai Rifle Range, Canadian Forces Station (CFS) St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). The Cambrai Rifle Range is situated on land leased from the Province of NL. Planned upgrades include excavation and replacement of all bullet catchers, cleanout and off-site disposal of all sediment within the sediment trench at the toe of the 600-yard butt stop, review and addressing drainage issues between lanes 1 and 6 at the 100 to 200 m marks, reconstruction of mantlet boards, repair and re-shaping of firing points, and removal and replacement of all lane and distance markers. Proposed project activities are expected to begin and conclude in 2026.

October 29, 2025 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The Department of National Defence is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
