Wharf Reconstruction, Belleoram, Newfoundland

DFO, Small Craft Harbour intends to complete a wharf reconstruction project in Belleoram, Newfoundland. The proposed project includes the demolition and disposal of the existing timber pile wharf and the construction of a new treated timber pile wharf. The existing pile wharf is approximately 53.7m long and is constructed of creosoted timber pile and cap with reinforced concrete deck and untreated timber fenders and wales. All demolition debris (including creosote timber) will be disposed of at an approved waste site. The new timber pile wharf, complete with reinforced concrete deck and concrete pile caps will be approximately 54m with a further 24m dog-leg section. The wharf will be 7.3m wide. The new wharf will have mooring cleats, structural timber wheelguard, wheelguard blocking and bracing, and untreated hardwood fenders and ladders. The area of the new wharf footprint will be 570 m2 with the other dog-leg accounting for 175 m2 of new footprint. A new electrical system will replace the old system and be fed from a new electrical shed, which replaces the old one. The new electrical system will include the new electrical shed, pedestals, light poles, conduit, wiring and service panels. Two (2) existing floating docks which are attached to the head of the existing wharf will have to be relocated.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) intends to make a determination regarding whether carrying out the wharf reconstruction, at the Small Craft Harbours site in Belleoram is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, DFO-SCH is inviting public comments in respect to that determination for 30 days following the posting of this notice.
