Phase 1 of the Riverhead Wastewater Treatment Facility: Secondary Treatment Expansion Project

The Project includes geotechnical design and site preparation for the future secondary treatment facility, and upgrades to the primary treatment facility at St. John's, NL. The secondary treatment facility design will incorporate biological processes to improve effluent quality, ensuring the system meets long-term wastewater treatment needs. Site preparation will involve clearing, blasting, excavation, slope stabilization, and access road reinstatement. Upgrades to the primary treatment facility will add a fourth clarifier, a new mechanical bar screen, and improvements to the digester heating system, biogas feed, and scum pumps, ultimately increasing primary treatment capacity from 134,800 m³/d to 160,000 m³/d. This work will improve the reliability and performance and expand the capacity of the Riverhead Wastewater Treatment Facility, and support the future secondary treatment expansion.
