Installation of an Outfall Pipeline, Mortier Bay, NL
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Grieg NL Nurseries Ltd. is proposing to install a 150mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) outfall pipeline from their land-based aquaculture facility, extending 175m into Mortier Bay, NL. Armour stone protection will be placed on approximately 75m of the pipeline from the shoreline and the remaining 100m of pipeline will be secured to concrete ballast blocks placed every 3m on the sea floor. A workboat with a crane will be used for the installation. The total estimated project footprint will be 1058 m2 below the high-water mark.
Latest update
October 23, 2025 – Transport Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- Community and Indigenous knowledge;
- Comments received from the public; and
- Application of technically and economically feasible mitigation measures (including but not limited to those listed in the attached document).
