Calgary International Airport West Runway Rehabilitation Project

 

Studies completed in recent years by The Calgary Airport Authority have confirmed that runway 17R-35L is approaching the end of its useful life, and that full depth structural and electrical rehabilitation is required. As such, The Calgary Airport Authority is currently in the planning and design phase of a project that will involve rehabilitation of the west runway at YYC Calgary International Airport (RWY 17R-35L). The rehabilitation will include removal and replacement of the existing pavement structure. Upgrades to the runway's aging electrical and drainage systems and supporting infrastructure will also be included in the design scope. The project will also include improvements to existing taxiways and aircraft movement surfaces. The project will maintain the existing footprint of RWY 17R-35L excepting the installation of new Runway End Safety Areas required by Transport Canada. Design and planning activities are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022 with construction occurring from 2023-2024. The project will ensure YYC Calgary International Airport can meet and maintain safety and security standards required for continuous operations.

August 22, 2022 – The Calgary Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Calgary International Airport West Runway Rehabilitation Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The Calgary Airport Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Calgary Airport Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
