Canadian Coast Guard Parry Sound Base Helipad Area Repair Project
The Canadian Coast Guard Parry Sound Base is located at 28 Waubeek Street Parry Sound, Ontario. The base is situated on the shores of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. The facility, managed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, is comprised of light industrial repair and maintenance workshops with mixed use administration offices, warehouse buildings, helipad and indoor garage, and a marine railway. Marine infrastructure for the site includes an L-shaped main wharf and secondary wharf constructed of steel sheet pile. Between the main wharf and helicopter hangar is a paved 12 m2 helipad surrounded by concrete curb and rock revetment.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Real Property Central and Arctic Region, Engineering and Technical Support is proposing to undertake the repair of damaged infrastructure to support facility operations and prevent further damage which would pose a health and safety risk to staff and contractors. The scope of work includes:
- Remove/dispose of old asphalt and broken concrete curbs around the damaged area near the helipad;
- Fortify the existing shore protection on the existing helipad perimeter with placement of 4,000lb boulders plus additional smaller rock rubble to add protection for extreme high water conditions; and
- Form, pour, and finish 6" of reinforced concrete in all areas where broken asphalt was removed.
