Hydro - North Shore Line Project

Manitoba Hydro proposes to clear trees along the existing North Shore Distribution Line (OE 12-7) in Riding Mountain National Park to widen the right-of way for safety and reliability purposes. The portion of the right-of-way to be widened is approximately 5.7 kilometers long (93 spans) and is located along the northeastern shore of Clear Lake, in the vicinity of the Clear Lake Golf Course and the North Shore Road. Clearing will be completed to 15-20 metres to either side of the centerline of the distribution line (maximum 40 metre right-of-way width). Clearing methods will include large tree removal using a feller buncher and mechanical mulching of understory shrubs and trees. Felled timber will be skidded and chipped using whole tree chipping equipment, and the chips hauled off site. Hazard trees (tall trees that pose a risk of falling on the line) located outside the right-of-way will also be removed either by feller buncher or hand clearing. Utility Tree Trimmers will trim back limbs and branches on the same line in the vicinity of the golf course. The work is anticipated to begin in early 2024 and is expected to last two to four weeks.
