Lighthouse Trail Reroute - Post Hurricane Fiona Upgrades
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Back in the fall 2022, the trail was extensively damaged by the effects of Hurricane Fiona.
In response to that damage, this undertaking calls for the rerouting of trail sections deemed beyond repair. Generally, rerouted sections will be relocated further inland back from damaged areas and away from storm surge effects.
The general scope of activities includes repair maintenance and slight modification to existing trail segments. Relocated sections will require various trail-building activities, including corridor demarcation and tree clearing, trail tread preparation (e.g. raising and hardening), and installations of boardwalk, culvert and small bridge where deemed necessary.
Construction work consists of use of hand tools for tree clearing as well as use of light equipment for excavation-related operations. Work is tentatively scheduled for the fall, 2023 and continue until completion, later in the fall or early spring.
Subject to funding from ACOA funding, this project will proceed by way of a Basic Impact Analysis.
