Dunn Lake Road Widening and Realignment Project

The Proposed Project

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) is seeking a s.28(2) permit from Indigenous Services Canada to widen, realign, and pave approximately 10km of Dunn Lake Road passing through the Simpcw First Nation north of Barrier, BC. Simpcw First Nation is in support of this improvement project.

The affected area on Simpcw First Nation land covers approximately 20.6 ha and has previously been cleared. The reconstruction of Dunn Lake Road to two lane paved surface will involve most common aspects of highway construction, including grading, milling and paving, and improvements to roadway drainage. Other works include grubbing & clearing; removal of contaminated soils; controlled excavation of archeological materials; relocation and tie-ins to civil water system in the community of Chu Chua; relocation of power, telephone, and fiber optic infrastructure; environmental offsetting; replacement and upgrades of drainage structures in Newhykulston and Skowootum Creeks as well as channelization work immediately above and below; and decommissioning and restoration of abandoned road surfaces.
