The Proposed Project

Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is proposing to expand cargo operations at EIA, bringing new job creation opportunities as well as critical transportation capacity for exports and imports to drive our region's recovery and growth.

This project will expand the cargo-area apron, allowing the airport to accommodate more cargo aircraft at one time for loading and unloading. EIA plans to install a modern hydrant fueling system in the apron, which will replace truck-based fueling to increase safety and reduce overall aircraft turnaround times. Additional cargo buildings will be developed to house cold storage facilities that will facilitate the movement of goods including the handling of critical temperature sensitive products. The project is located on 21st street and 35th avenue at EIA and encompasses lands referred to as Lot 52, Lot 53, and Lot 54.

The project is proposed to occur entirely on developed lands with existing utility connections to the leased lots. Paving activities on the existing airfield cargo-area apron and groundside development will expand by approximately 57,200 square meters. Cargo building development is designed to encompass up to 232,000 square feet. The described hydrant fueling system will connect the existing aviation fuel tanks to the apron through a new 1.5 km underground fueling line.
