Port Edward Phase 3 Wharf Reconstruction

Small Craft Harbours (SCH) is undertaking a project to reconstruct multiple wharf structures at Port Edward Harbour.  These wharves provides loading and offloading for fishing vessels and serve as a foundation for buildings critical to fishing operations.

  

The proposed project involves reconstruction of timber post foundations as well as replacement of timber sub-structure beams for wharfs supporting buildings in the north portion of the harbour.

 

The project will also include construction of 50m x 18m wharf deck, comprised of steel beams and concrete deck on existing steel piles, to complete the loading wharf in the central area of the harbour.  Construction of the central loading wharf will restore lost functionality of wharves demolished in previous construction phases.   

 

Services in the central area will be reconstructed to meet the requirements of the loading wharf and adjacent service area.  Resurfacing of the central service area will be completed with asphalt top layer.

 

Upon completion, this project will minimize associated risks to the site by allowing continued safe operations and provide infrastructure to best support the fishing industry.

September 17, 2021 – The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Small Craft Harbours issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant environmental effects.
