Canadian Coast Guard Mount Gil Radio Site Upgrade and Radar Installation

The objective of the project is to add radar capabilities to the existing site on Mount Gil located approximately 18km South of Hartley Bay, BC. The scope of the project is to build an replacement 80 ft (24.4m) radar tower (10mx20m), 5mx12m replacement prefabricated aluminum building, and a secondary helicopter landing pad (20x20). The existing site infrastructure is at the end of it's lifespan and cannot be renovated to accommodate the demands of a new radar system. The current infrastructure will be decommissioned. The new infrastructure must be built along side the existing infrastructure without impacting it's operation until the new equipment is online. To run a parallel system Coast Guard is seeking an expansion to the existing land tenure area to allow for uninterrupted coverage.

This project was initially posted last year and the first phase of work has been complete (building the new tower and concrete pads for the fuel system and new building). The second phase will be to install and build the new fuel system, building, and radar.

In general, project works are proposed to start in October 2021 and end in April 2022.
