Deer Lake Very High Frequency Omni-directional Range (VOR) Replacement

NAV CANADA proposes to replace the existing Standard Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (SVOR) navigation aid with a more modern Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (DVOR). The VOR site is located 14 km east of the Deer Lake Airport along the Trans Canada Highway (TCH), and about 260 m north of the TCH. The purpose of a VOR is to provide navigational aid to aircraft operating in the area. Work will include dismantling of the existing SVOR, construction of the new DVOR approximately 20 m east of the current SVOR, excavation to install footings to support the canopy and shelter of the DVOR, installation of a chain-link fence around the DVOR, and the construction of a Near-Field Antenna 90m southwest of the DVOR.

Latest update

April 11, 2024 – The authorities issued their Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
