Burying Overhead Power Line in Grasslands National Park

Grasslands National Park is partnering with SaskPower to replace nearly 7 km of overhead service line in with a buried service line. Tall vertical structures in critical habitat are identified in the Recovery Strategy for this species as a chronic disturbance that threatens their recovery and survival. By removing power poles in critical habitat in and around the park, the proposed project will work towards conservation goals for the greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus urophasianus) identified by both the Grasslands N.P. multi-species action plan and the South of the Divide action plan. Service will be maintained by installing a buried line following the existing roadway. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
