Bella Coola Ferry Terminal Berth Upgrades
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
This project is for replacement of the existing ferry turning dolphin. Project Activities include the replacement of existing, deteriorated infrastructure and installation of new components in the marine environment. Project components are as follows:
• Remove existing concrete platform, timber fender wall, and associated steel piles.
• Install four (4) new 1219 mm (48 in) outer diameter steel piles with anodes.
• Relocate existing steel pile dolphin.
• Install new floating concrete turning dolphin.
All deconstruction and construction activities will occur from a barge. Existing piles will be removed by vibro hammer or cut at the mudline if removal by vibro hammer is ineffective. New piles will be installed using a combination of vibro hammer and drop hammer. The new pontoon will be constructed off site and floated in for installation. The Project is anticipated to take approximately six weeks. The final construction methodology will be determined by the Contractor, in consultation with the BC Ferries Representative and Environmental Monitor.
