Makwahatine Cultural Village

The proposed project consists of the construction of a cultural village for the residents of Negotkuk (Tobique) First Nation. The total project footprint is 0.63 ha (6,300m2) and will include the following activities:

  • Partial site clearing
  • Excavation/grading
  • Construction/installation of project components, including the construction of a longhouse, two (2) star lodges, sweat lodge, services building (300 m2), outdoor classroom, a teepee, medicinal and vegetable gardens, sacred fire, talking circle, and a walking trail
  • Installation of water and electrical services (drilling of a potable water well and installation of a traditional tank and field septic system)
  • Landscaping;
  • Completion of stockade/enclosure fence

Latest update

August 1, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
