Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Timber Harvest on IR 207

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation are proposing to harvest 18,425 cubic metres of timber from 162 hectares of forested land on IR 207 from February 15, 2022 to March 31, 2022.

The project activities include:
- Road freezing
- Tiber felling
- Skidding
- Road Construction
- Processing
- Loading
- Hauling
- Slash piling/spreading
- Road reclamation
- Natural regeneration for hardwood species and planting in 2024 of softwood species

The project will require the "freezing-in" of 14.4 km of existing winter road and the development of 1.7 km of temporary in-block roads that will be reclaimed post harvest.  The existing winter road will not be reclaimed at this time as there are future harvest blocks that could use this road. Approval from Saskatchewan Environment to utilize the section of existing winter road that is on provincial crown land to the reserve boundary.  A permit from the Ministry of Highways for improvements to and use of an existing approach on the proposed winter road. Riparian buffers of 90 metres from all surface water will be maintained at all times.
