  • Hello,   This herd of about 150 elk was camped out just across Highway 22 from the proposed SR-1 Dry Dam Site this afternoon.  It makes me sick to think that nobody seems to care about their future.  And that of the rest of the ecosystem that revolves around this herd.  Cougars, Grizzlies, Coyotes, homesteads, and the elk themselves are all losers should that project go ahead. And all because of a few people feel threatened by another one in 500 year event.  I live south of the proposed dam and it doesn't help me at all.  But I will be subject to the acrid dust, stench, and loss of wildlife I have come to love living in this pristine environment.   Please add these photos to your files for future consideration.  I hope that they won't be some of the last ones we get.   Katherine Corkery Taxpayer, Redwood Meadows Townsite, Alberta

  •   I fully support the Springbank off-stream Reservoir project.  I was involved in the 2013 flood, and live along the floodway. The residents and businesses of not just Calgary but surrounding areas of Southern Alberta were devastated. This is now over seven years ago, and I believe that further flood mitigation to prevent another catastrophic flood is critical.  The Springbank reservoir project is not to just appease “downtown city interests”, as has been put forward by opponents to this plan.  I understand the concerns of landowners in the immediate vicinity of the proposed reservoir. I would not like a construction project in my own backyard either, but we need to look past that and try to understand “the greater good.” Furthermore, this is a temporary holding area, not a permanent flood wall. I live in Inglewood, where a flood wall was constructed, passing right through my own backyard. ...

  • We are forwarding the attached letter from Ms. Laura Friend to you for your information, as we see you did not receive a copy and we had copied you with our letter of Appeal to NRCB.    We were very disappointed by this rejection of our appeal for Intervener standing as we have had concerns regarding the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir project and feel these serious concerns regarding the safety of an undersized, earthern dam on the doorstep of Calgary, are not receiving the attention they demand.   Calgarians have been led to believe SR1 will protect them from another 2013 sized flood, but the evidence we have seen shows this not to be true.  If SR1 will not fully protect Calgary from a 2013 size flood, and would be overcome by a larger flood, this information should be revealed to all before more time and resources are wasted on ...

As became evident early on the project quickly turned into a political/bureaucratic fast track project. As almost all fast track debacles previously done by government and bureaucrats SR1 has turned out over budget and behind schedule. SR1 will eventually turn out to be the mother of all debacles.
