  • I do not believe this project has thoroughly examined the science behind the design. Plus how can the government force out families who have lived and farmed in the area for over 100 years? It seems so wrong that a project designed to help Calgary avoid flooding would hurt another community in the process. Please do not give the go ahead for this project make them rethink a different plan.

  • Good afternoon, Re; SR1 dry diversion - changes to information during the NRCB hearing   The dam takes 30-40 days to drain and during that time the shoreline will be producing fugitive dust with our constant winds. Biologists are supposed to be stunning fish and removing them.  Fugitive dust is an invisible occupational health hazard.  This means that the tourism months of June, July, August will have unacceptable levels of invisible dust at the very least in a tourism corridor. A high water table reduces the weight the land can take by ¾.  This area has a high water table.  Has that been accounted for?  It has not been mentioned. During flood season basements flood at 8’-0.  If the channel is 82’-20’ deep how will it not fill with groundwater?  ...

  • It is my understanding that, although a Joint Review Panel was not agreed to by the IAAC, the IAAC would be monitoring and considering the information raised during the NRCB Hearing on the SR1 Project in its final determination of the approval or rejection of this project.   The attached document outlines some of the many concerns raised at the recent NRCB Hearing regarding the SR1 project.  The evidence provided during the NRCB Hearing differs in many significant ways from the overly positive views outlined in the Proponent’s Environmental Impact Statement submitted to the IAAC in 2018.  It is my belief that this information should cause the IAAC to revisit its Draft Environmental Assessment Report.  The environmental consequences of the SR1 project are much worse than was reported in 2018.  Further, the consultation record provided by the Proponent, with regard to both First Nations and the Public, seems to ...

  • Springbank Reservoir (SR1) - Summary of Relevant Information from NRCB Hearing The following is a summary of some of the information provided at the NRCB Hearing into the SR1 project that is relevant to the decision made by IAAC regarding the environmental impacts of the project. Project Benefits It is clear from the evidence presented at the Hearing that the benefits provided to Albertans from the SR1 project are uneven. The project provides 1 in 200 year flood protection to residents downstream from the Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary and significantly less than that to residents upstream of the Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary and residents in Rocky View County downstream from SR1. Residents in the towns of Redwood Meadows (on the Tsuut’ina Nation) and Bragg Creek also receive less than 1 in 200 year flood protection from berms to be built in those towns.   • Hello,   This herd of about 150 elk was camped out just across Highway 22 from the proposed SR-1 Dry Dam Site this afternoon.  It makes me sick to think that nobody seems to care about their future.  And that of the rest of the ecosystem that revolves around this herd.  Cougars, Grizzlies, Coyotes, homesteads, and the elk themselves are all losers should that project go ahead. And all because of a few people feel threatened by another one in 500 year event.  I live south of the proposed dam and it doesn't help me at all.  But I will be subject to the acrid dust, stench, and loss of wildlife I have come to love living in this pristine environment.   Please add these photos to your files for future consideration.  I hope that they won't be some of the last ones we get.   Katherine Corkery Taxpayer, Redwood Meadows Townsite, Alberta
