Pikangikum Cultural Learning and Community Centre

Pikangikum First Nation (the proponent) is proposing to construct a new multi-purpose community facitlity. In total the proposed project will be 7, 300 m2 located along Road #14 wihtin the Pikangikum community subdivision. The proposed project will include the following components:

  • Construction of a 1, 555 m2 wood framed structure on a shallow concrete foundation 
  • Installation of 275 m of watermain from Airport Road
  • Topsoil stripping and excavation 
  • Foundation backfill and grading
  • Creating spaces for parking lots and sidewalks

The new Pikangikum Cultural Learning and Community Centre will provide services to the community including daycare, social support, nutirition, educational readiness, and Indigenous culture and language services. The community centre will include multi-purpose rooms, a stage and a kitchen. The centre wil also include an adult learning centre that will have classrooms for GED cerfitication and other buisness/trades training.


Latest update

November 3, 2022 - Infrastructure Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
