Smith's Landing First Nation Phase 1(a) Housing Development

Smith's Landing First Nation is proposing to develop five lots (Phase 1a) of a larger proposed subdivision within NE-33-126-11-W4 within its lands at Thabacha Nare No. 196A. The Project will include the build up and grading of lands, constructions of access roads, storm water ditches (ditch and culverts), and a gravel walking path. Residences will be serviced with shallow utilities (power, gas, communication), water and sewer will be provided with cistern and septic tanks, and houses are to be built on three of the five lots.

August 31, 2022 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Smith's Landing First Nation Phase 1(a) Housing Development Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples
- Indigenous knowledge
- Community knowledge
- Comments received from the public and
- Mitigation measures
Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
