Seasonal Tennis Dome Installation at Rideau Sports Centre

The tenant at 1 Donald Street is planning to install a seasonal dome to cover their existing, permanent tennis court infrastructure, allowing for year-round public use of the tennis facility. The dome will be installed at the expense of the tenant and will be tenant owned and operated. The seasonal dome will require permanent foundational infrastructure to support the tent; a min. grade beam (18'' wide x 70'' deep) will run along the perimeter of the courts. The dome will be installed over the pre-existing tennis courts, covering a space of 150 ft (45.72m) by 236 ft (71.93m) with a height of 48 ft (14.6) at its tallest point. Approximately 46 trees will be impacted along the north and east side of the courts; the trees will be compensated on the property at a 2:1 ratio. Construction will not interfere with the Rideau River Eastern Pathway, which runs adjacent to the tennis courts. The project area is located approximately 200m from the nearest residential area, the surrounding community neighbouring Rideau Sports Centre will be advised of upcoming work.

The installation of a seasonal tennis dome will allow for year-round public enjoyment of the tennis facility, as it extends operations for an additional 5 months (December through April).

The project is expected to commence November 1, 2020, pending approval. Construction is expected to last until December 1, 2020.
