Submission Policy


The Canadian Impact Assessment Registry (the Registry) provides an opportunity for participants and other stakeholders to submit comments or information online in an open, transparent and inclusive manner. To support more timely access to information and to encourage meaningful participation, information submitted via the online Registry is made public in real-time.

Any comments or information submitted must comply with the Impact Assessment Act and any related legislation, policies and guidelines to protect information against unauthorized disclosure. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) reserves the right to remove information submitted, in whole or in part, according to the following guidelines.

Do not include information that is private or confidential, or that could cause a security concern. Examples of information that should not be submitted include:

Confidential Information

If confidential information needs to be provided, including confidential Indigenous knowledge, participants and stakeholders are asked to submit it in a protected way, and not via the online portal. Please refer to the contact information found on the relevant assessment page or policy document for other methods on how confidential information can be submitted.

Be Respectful

Do not make comments or provide information that that is inappropriate or offensive, including information that is contrary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Constitution Act, 1982.

Acceptable Format

Electronic file formats that might cause security risks cannot be accepted, such as files with an “.exe” extension. In addition, content that could reasonably be seen as advertising or solicitation, spam or malware, or other irrelevant material cannot be accepted. Links to other websites will be automatically disabled, as the Agency cannot guarantee or endorse the content provided by other websites.
