Berry Point TCZ-2 and TCZ-3 Range Light Installations – Public comments invited 

November 21, 2023 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Berry Point TCZ-2 and TCZ-3 Range Light Installations, located approximately 100 m off the coast of the Burnaby Refinery at Berry Point, Burnaby within the Burrard Inlet are likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project 

The Applicant proposes to install and operate two navigational aid platforms (i.e., range light towers). The Project is required to facilitate the movement of vessels through the Second Narrows Traffic Control Zone 2 (TCZ-2) as part of the Port Authority Active Vessel Traffic Management Program. Four piles will be driven into the seabed at each location. Other components of the range light towers (e.g., range platform, tower, tower solar array, etc.) would be prefabricated offsite into modules and installed upon pile installation. The distance between the two structures will be approximately 300 m.
