Vidal Street South Area Watermain Replacement
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Vidal Street South Area Watermain Replacement Project comprises of watermain replacement work (Approximately 5000m) including all associated works located under existing roads and/or in road right-of-ways, on various streets as per the tentative project phases detailed below. All watermains are owned and operated by the City of Sarnia. All replacement lengths are approximate.
Phase 1 2022:
Engineering design
- Complete engineering and design work required before construction (No construction during this phase)
Phase 2, 2023:
Vidal Street South and Polymer Road: 670m of watermain replacement
- Construction undertaken in right of way owned by Aamjiwnaang First Nation
Vidal Street South: 1200m of directional drilled watermain replacement
- Construction undertaken in undeveloped land owned by Aamjiwnaang First Nation
Phase 3: 2024:
LaSalle Line: 610m of watermain replacement and installation of meter pit chambers to connect to St. Clair watermain
- Construction undertaken in right of way owned by Lambton County
Phase 4: 2025
Wayne Avenue and Marlborough Lane: 390m of watermain replacement
- Construction undertaken in right of way owned by City of Sarnia
Phase 5: 2026
Replacement of 1200m of 6" watermain using directional drilling that runs from Vidal St. South to River Road at North edge of Aamjiwnaang First Nation Land
- Construction undertaken in undeveloped land owned by Aamjiwnaang First Nation
Replacement of 450m of watermain on Wahboose Circle and Beaver Circle in addition to 100m of directional drilled watermain to connect these areas and eliminate two dead-ends
- Construction undertaken in right of way owned by Aamjiwnaang First Nation. Directional drilling under privately owned property through easement. Alternatively, old watermains on Beaver and Wahboose Circle will be replaced if looping is not possible.
Latest update
March 30, 2023 - Infrastructure Canada has determined the proposed Vidal Street South Area Watermain Replacement (the Project) is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- relevant potential environmental effects;
- comments received from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation and monitoring measures taken into account for this determination included active and adaptive management measures that would be implemented for the protection of the local environment. Based on the consideration of these measures, Infrastructure Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, Infrastructure Canada may carry out the Project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the Project to be carried out in whole or in part.
