Demolition and Disposal of Buildings - 5 Wing Goose Bay

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project which involves the demolition and disposal of 14 buildings at Canadian Forces Base (CFB ) 5 Wing Goose Bay, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador consisting of 12 barracks and 2 mess halls. The buildings are currently vacant and were constructed in 1953 to serve as military residences for soldiers at 5 Wing Goose Bay. Each consist of an approximate gross area ranging between 2390.1 m2 to 2457.4 m2 and the 2 mess halls each consist of approximate gross areas of 2660.7 m2 and 2854.3m2. The Project will also consist of the removal of two underground tunnels which connects a few of the buildings. The Project will include the removal and proper disposal of identified hazardous and non-hazardous building materials (as identified in applicable Hazardous Materials Assessments conducted in March 2021), associated above and below ground utilities (electrical, water/sewage, and hot water heating) as well as subsequent site grading and site restoration. Where possible, proper recycling/reuse of materials will be implemented. It is anticipated that the construction of the proposed Project is scheduled to be completed over the next 7 years.
