Lielvarde Air Base – Earth Covered Magazines (ECM) construction

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. This project is to construct 7 Earth Covered Magazines (ECM) at the Lielvarde Air Base in Latvia. ECM are specialized, heavily reinforced concrete bunkers buried under earth mounds, to safely store ammunition and explosives. There are approximately ~190 m2 each in surface area. The construction of these is set to occur on developed and serviced land managed and operated by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
