Concerns with the Deep Geologic Repository project

I find just thinking of the position we have put ourselves in having to deal with this perpetually dangerous high level radioactive nuclear waste disturbing.  The public deserves the most thorough of impact assessments including the nuclear waste transportation routes, the risks and emergency preparedness.  All communities along such routes should be informed and have input. It seems unjust that communities that have not benefitted from the decades of nuclear generation are having the dangers and other negatives of this waste put on them. Would the waste be better kept securely in place.

Germany attempted to bury its nuclear waste but the waste got into the ground water.  It had to be extracted at huge expense.

We now have much safer, truly cleaner, cheaper alternative sources of energy available to us such as conservation, renewables such as wind and solar, water power and battery storage.  And we now have to deal with the toxic, dangerous waste results of decades of nuclear power generation some of which will remain a threat to life forms for millions of years. Wisdom would dictate that we should take another path. However, that doesn't seem to be the case in much of Canada.

I agree with the following points:

- The NWMO's "Deep Geological Repository project"must be designated for a full impact assessment and public hearing

-Transportation must be included in the impact assessment

- A thorough examination of alternatives to the project and alternative means of carrying out the project must be included in the impact assessment

- The initial Project Description fails to provide the necessary information about the NWMO's project, a detailed project description is necessary
