Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback to the Initial Project Description by the NWMO.

Firstly, I would like to express that I am 100% opposed to the transportation of and proposed burial of nuclear waste between Wabigon Lake Ojibway Nation land and Ignace. Nuclear waste is one of the most dangerous substances on the planet and should not be transported 1000’s of kilometres by road and then buried, when it essentially remains a toxic danger forever, not just 160 years.

In regards to the Initial Project Description by the NWMO, one of my highest concerns is that there is no mention of the guaranteed danger with the transportation of the waste between southern Ontario and the proposed site.  As a life long resident of northern Ontario, accidents with transport trucks on the two way sections of northern highways are a regular occurrence, especially in the winter months. This proposal is reminding me of the attempt 25 years ago to transport MOX fuel via our northern highways. This was a substantially smaller amount to be transported, yet due to high public and municipal opposition, the highway transportation of the material was cancelled.

Also lacking in the IPD is a commitment by the NWMO to do a full environmental impact assessment. This is absolutely essential and must be done. I would also like to call for extensive public hearings, increased education and participatory opportunities over several months or years, rather than just 30 days.
