Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project
Nuclear Waste Should Be Kept at Site of Production…

I am a long time resident of Atikokan and am completely opposed to both the transportation of nuclear waste on our highways as well as the storage of nuclear waste in a deep geological repository near Ignace.
Our highways, especially in the winter months, are hazardous for travel on any given day. These highways already have a huge number of transport trucks on them and are not infrequently involved in crashes.
Nuclear waste should be kept at the point of production where it can be safely monitored and dealt with by experts in the field if problems should arise. A D.G.R. as proposed will be 2000km from the site of production and will not be able to be safely monitored in the area of storage.
