Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project

As a citizen of Thunder Bay, I am concerned about several aspects of the deep geological repository project (DGR).

My first concern is that the nuclear waste will be stored out of sight without the opportunity to monitor ongoing dgradation of the waste.  I believe that a far better means of storing the waste would be an above ground facility with easy access to facilitate processing of the waste in to a useful "product" when research has determined a future use for the recycled product.  Surely something can be salvaged this "abundnat" resource.

My second concern is the transportation of the waste to the GDR through much of Ontario.  Yes there are "fail safe" methods to transport the waste, just as there are fail safe methods to avoid reactor accidents.  I have no faith in fail safe designs.  We have wittnessed several incidents when fail safe events did occur.  Need I say more?

My third concern relates to indigenous rights.  I am unwilling to accept the approval of only one First Nation for this project.  A project of this long lasting nature should be considered by all those who will be affected, including those First Nations through which the waste will be transported and by the First Nations that surround the selected disposal site.

Therefore I request that a federal impact assesment occur which includes my above concerns.

Thank you for providing this opportunity to comment.
