Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project

While reading about the repository I gather that the waste will be stored for 1,000s of years before it is safe. Some of what I read suggest it will be stored between 500,000 to 1,000,000 years before it is safe.
We are asking future generations to assume a significant responsiblity and potential safety risk without their permission. I suggest that such a consequential decision needs to be made through a public referenum.
I would like to know what costs have been estimated to administer and maintain the repository and how those costs will be funded. Will a fund be provided from current taxes to provide for such costs?
I also note that current proponents for nuclear expansion do not mention how spent nuclear waste will be handled and would like to see some required verbiage in their documents to warn about the responsibility and risks we are asking future generations to take on.
